Jordan Pines (Big Cottonwood)

Jordan Pines is located about 9 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon and is for those seeking a beautiful mountain setting with wide-open fields, tall grasses, and wonderful pine trees.  Unfortunately, pets are not welcome at this location, but your children are!  There is now plenty of parking.

Millcreek Canyon (1)

This beautiful area of Millcreek Canyon is filled with tall grasses, post-fences, and golden aspens.  It is lovely in both the morning and the evening.  Doggies are allowed.  There is a $5 fee to be paid on your way out of the Canyon.

Millcreek Canyon (2)

I found this gem last year and it is one of my favorites.  The maple trees are beautiful and it has a hidden mountain view.  It also has some post fences and is also lovely in both the morning and the evening.  It has several parking areas. And of course, you can bring your furry friend. There is a $5 fee to be paid on your way out of the Canyon.

Millcreek Canyon (3)

This part of Millcreek is the last to turn.  And the leaves are later in October.  It is right along the river with fun bridges and waterfalls.  Usually, the leaves cover the ground making it an Autumn wonderland.  There is plenty of parking and the light is beautiful in the morning as well as in the evening.  Because it is Millcreek there is a $5 fee, however, Fido is welcome!

Guardsman Pass

Guardsman Pass is located between Big Cottonwood Canyon and Park City.  There are tons of Aspen trees and the view of the mountains is spectacular!  There are also tall grasses and wide-open fields.  If you enter through Big Cottonwood doggies are not allowed.  But if you come through Park City, or Midway bring them along.

Silver Lake (Big Cottonwood)

The combination of the pines and the golden aspens is beautiful, especially with their reflections on the lake.   It is just up the road from Jordan Pines in Big Cottonwood. You will have to leave your furry friend at home.

Garden Park

Located in the Harvard/Yale area of Salt Lake this charming parklike ward has a stream running through it as well as a pond with bridges and lovely landscaping.  The leaves turn later in October.  There is good parking. Doggies are not allowed here.

Temple Quarry

This beautiful gem is at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon and also one where the leaves turn later.  The maple and oak trees mingle with the beautiful granite rock that was used to build the Salt Lake Temple.  Unfortunately, you have to leave your dog at home.
