Chasing the Light

a blog by Lisa Chriss Photography

Welcome!

Thank you so much for stopping by my Blog.  I am happy you are here!  I hope you enjoy some of the things I love. It's mostly photography with a little bit of everything else sprinkled in.

If you are wondering where the name "Chasing the Light" came from, it popped in my head while I was photographing the extraordinary Autumn leaves a few years back in Big Cottonwood Canyon Utah.  I loved watching the light dance on the trees and how it was constantly changing the colors.  Every time I would think I had the perfect shot, the light would change and I would have to move.  I found myself "Chasing the Light" for most of the evening.  It was wonderful!  I felt it was a perfect metaphor for life!  We should never get too comfortable in one place, but keep moving forward to an even better place.  Keep chasing what is good!

I seek light in almost everything I do.  As a photographer, light is everything.  As George Eastman said, "Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography."

I strive to find light in all aspects of my life.   However,  I have to admit, it is not always easy and sometimes I feel I am literally chasing it.  In the world today there is a lot of darkness, Some avoidable and some not.  Darkness is not always a bad thing and we can learn from it.  We can't truly appreciate the light without the darkness.  I love the writer Og Mandino and he said, "I will love the light because it will show me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it will show me the stars."

My biggest source of light comes from my Savior.  When all else fails, his light does not!  He said, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."  I know that with all my heart!

My other sources of light are kindness, love, respect, humility, hope, and laughter and I try to share them whenever I can.  I urge everyone to find their own sources of light and do the same!  Find what is good in your life and keep chasing it!
